Interpreting for Groundbreaking of iconic Saigon river pedestrian bridge
March 29, 2025 witnessed a momentous ceremony that marked a significant milestone for Ho Chi Minh City's urban development: the groundbreakinng of the highly anticipated pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River. This architectural marvel, designed in the shape of a water coconut (or nipa palm) leaf—a quintessential symbol of southern Vietnam—will soon connect District 1 with Thu Duc City, creating a stunning new landmark on the city's evolving skyline.
A Landmark Celebrating Vietnam's Heritage

The pedestrian bridge project, with an investment of approximately 996.9 billion VND (equivalent to about $42 million USD), is fully sponsored by Nutifood.
The bridge's design is particularly noteworthy, featuring a main span in the form of an arch suspended by cables, creating the distinctive silhouette of a water coconut leaf. With a total length of approximately 261 meters, the bridge will serve as both a practical pedestrian route and an architectural statement, becoming a new icon in the city's landscape.

The central area of Ho Chi Minh City is where our team of Vietnamese English interpreters have worked extensively. Today, my AKT Translation team and I are participating in the important ceremony of breaking ground for the bridge across the river! Soon, city residents will have a place to take photos, enjoy leisure activities, and admire the scenery.
On District 1's side, the bridge begins at Bach Dang Wharf Park, 125 meters south of Me Linh Square, and connects to Thu Duc City's riverside park in Thu Thiem New Urban Area at Nguyen Thien Thanh and N14 streets' intersection.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks just the beginning of this exciting project, with construction now underway to create what will soon become one of Ho Chi Minh City's most photographed and visited landmarks—a true bridge connecting Vietnam's rich heritage with its dynamic future.

I remember watching fireworks from Ton Duc Thang Street, and the scene was already beautiful. If there's a pedestrian bridge, perhaps we'll get to be on the bridge and watch fireworks from there, which would be amazing!
