Translating at the Launch event of the project ‘Australia Vietnam Mekong Delta Sustainable Rice Value Chain’

Launched at Sao Mai Hotel (Cao Lãnh City), the event was attended by Senator the Hon -Australian Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing Tim Ayres; Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski; Australian Consul-General to Vietnam, HCMC Sarah Hooper; provincial leaders of Đồng Tháp, An Giang, Kiên Giang – where the project is going to be implemented; along with representatives from project owners, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the SunRice Group.
The expected main outcome of the project is the establishment of a highly productive, sustainable, traceable, quality-assured value chain for tropical short grain rice (with specific characteristics) in the MD, benefiting rice-farming households and meeting established SunRice market requirements.
In particular, the project will encourage the adoption of Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) framework among rice producing cooperatives/farmer groups. In addition, a Centre of Excellence in milling and post-harvest processing will also be established at the SunRice Group’s Lấp Vò Mill, where site visits and training for extension staff and farmers are organized. Furthermore, there will be a rice quality laboratory to enable the quantification of key quality parameters of the value chain.
