English-Vietnamese interpretation at training workshop
The workshop on Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability (DUS) testing of plant varieties, though a long-standing topic, presented novel aspects. Agriculture has always been a strong suit for the AKT team, with extensive experience in events related to rice, aquaculture, cashew, coffee, and other agricultural sectors. However, delving into the specific traits and the quantitative and qualitative methodologies for individual crop varieties truly necessitates expert support.
For this particular workshop, the AKT team felt incredibly fortunate to collaborate with representatives from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the Plant Variety Protection Office, and the Southern Plant Variety Testing and Inspection Station. This collaboration allowed our interpretation team to contribute to sharing policy development and testing criteria experiences with delegations from the Thai, Cambodian, and Laotian Ministries of Agriculture.

Why might a single workshop utilize multiple interpreting formats?
Throughout this trip, AKT Translation's experienced team of interpreters navigated a variety of interpreting scenarios.The first morning was dedicated to a plenary session, where all speakers and participants gathered in an auditorium to address overarching issues and set the context for subsequent working sessions. This session naturally included standard booths and headsets for efficient two-way communication, with AKT Translation's experienced and reliable interpreters providing precise and accurate renditions.
By the afternoon of the first day, the session delved into specific issues through continuous, unscripted Q&A, without pre-existing materials to follow. This is where AKT Translation's strengths truly shone, as our quick-witted and knowledgeable interpreters continuously interacted, interpreting and explaining bidirectionally for both listeners and speakers. What is on-site interpreting?
The second day involved a field trip, an interpreting scenario that the AKT Translation team is well accustomed to. On-site interpreting means going to the facility, using portable interpreting equipment (without a booth, but still ensuring simultaneous information exchange between listeners and speakers, saving time). In this instance, all participants visited a model field where the Southern Plant Variety Testing and Inspection Station demonstrated a systematic and meticulous approach that precisely met the demands for distinctness, uniformity, and stability. This exemplifies how AKT Translation contributes to the success of international workshops, training sessions, or other specific situations requiring interpreting with portable equipment.
