Cabin Interpretation for Technical Meeting on Fruit Trees

2025/08/27

A technical meeting on fruit trees took place at the Southern Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology, themed "Challenges and Opportunities for Vietnam's Mango Industry Development." AKT Translation was entrusted as the interpreting company for this international event in the agricultural and agricultural export sectors.

Where does Vietnam's mango industry currently stand?

The conference brought together prominent names in the agricultural field. Mr. Bui Quang Dang - representative of the Board of Science and International Cooperation, Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) - opened the event with heartfelt remarks. Additionally, the participation of Southwest Forestry University (China), Southern Fruit Research Institute, and Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association added significant weight to the proceedings.

Southwest Forestry University (China) presented a comprehensive overview of the mango industry across countries including Australia, Thailand, China, and Vietnam. The English presentation was seamlessly interpreted into Vietnamese by AKT's cabin interpretation team, enabling attendees to access accurate statistics on production, productivity, and exports, along with a detailed roadmap of the mango industry value chain from cultivation to harvesting and processing. Mr. Deng provided in-depth analysis of relationships between enterprises in the supply chain, from upstream to downstream - much like a river system with multiple tributaries converging. The SWOT analysis revealed that Vietnam possesses numerous natural advantages such as favorable climate and low production costs, yet continues to struggle with limitations in technology and supply chain connectivity.

AKT interpreters skillfully handled complex technical terminology such as "Integrated Pest Management" (with additional mention of IPNM - where N represents Nutrition, an added component to IPM), "Maximum Residue Limit" (commonly abbreviated as MRL), and "institutional arrangement of production."

What challenges does the Mekong Delta face in mango production?

Dr. Doan Huu Tien from the Southern Fruit Research Institute thoroughly dissected the current state of mango production in Vietnam's most fertile delta region. Through his presentation, listeners were virtually taken on a tour through mango orchards featuring diverse specialty varieties: golden Cat Hoa Loc mangoes, fragrant-sweet Cat Chu mangoes, Taiwan Tuong mangoes, and crisp Keo mangoes.

However, it wasn't all rosy. Dr. Tien identified critical bottlenecks in Vietnam's mango industry: fragmented production, lack of connectivity, and inconsistent processes that make product quality as unpredictable as transitional weather patterns. Farmers still lack professional knowledge, relying on traditional wisdom passed down through generations, while climate change is knocking on every mango garden's door with saltwater intrusion and prolonged droughts.

How can Vietnam enhance its mango value chain in the international market?

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association guided listeners through the journey of mangoes from orchard to dining table. The mango value chain emerged as a complex network encompassing cultivation, harvesting, preliminary processing, packaging, storage, and distribution - each link equally crucial to the whole.

Most intriguing was the comparison between traditional and modern value chains. If the traditional chain resembles a winding village path, the modern chain is a straight highway complete with logistics systems and "gold-standard" traceability. Mr. Binh also excited the audience by announcing impressive figures for Vietnam's mango exports in Q1 2025, demonstrating the increasingly solid position of this "golden fruit" (and sometimes other colors, depending on the mango variety - naturally!) in the international market.

AKT Translation takes pride in partnering with important industry events, contributing to Vietnam's agricultural development and connecting experts and businesses both domestically and internationally.

Most effective solutions for enhancing Vietnam's mango export?

Dr. Doan Huu Tien returned to the stage with "remedies" for the mango export industry. His presentation didn't just identify problems but also provided specific "prescriptions" with practical solutions: from strengthening scientific research and technology transfer to building standard cultivation zones and developing new-model cooperatives.

The highlight of his address was emphasizing the importance of storage and processing systems - two areas where Vietnam remains "weak and lacking." According to Dr. Tien, for Vietnamese mangoes to fly high and far, it's not enough to just grow them well; they must also be properly stored and diversely processed, transforming mangoes from fresh fruit into high-value products such as juice, dried fruit, frozen products, and more.

Secret to success for Vietnam's mango industry?

Many opinions suggested that Vietnam needs to fully leverage free trade agreements such as CPTTP, RCEP, and EU/UK FTAs to open doors for Vietnamese mangoes. Trade agreements are like bridges, but to cross safely, Vietnamese mangoes must wear the "armor" of food safety certifications and traceability.

The discussion session was lively with enthusiastic participation from delegates. Each opinion represented a piece of the puzzle in the overall picture of Vietnam's future mango industry. With years of experience in the interpretation field, AKT has become a trusted partner for many organizations and businesses both domestically and internationally, especially in events related to agriculture, trade, and international cooperation - particularly when interpreting special segments such as: the need for close connections between "four pillars": farmers - businesses - researchers - the state" so that Vietnamese mangoes can "blossom and bear even sweeter fruit."
