Interpretation at Asia's Largest Glass, Window, and Glazing Exhibition
The "Glass and Facades for the Future" event, a magnificent "stage" within the Glasstech Asia & Fenestration Asia Exhibition, was nothing short of a "summit" for the "grandmasters" of the Asian glass and facade industry.
Once again, AKT was "handpicked" by VGBC to collaborate with MMI Asia for the event titled "Glass and Facades for the Future." This event was so "hot" that it attracted thousands of visitors and over 200 "talents" from brands and exhibitors across the region, demonstrating its "weight" in the glass and facade community.

Asia Façade & Glass Conference 2024: What's "Hot"?
The Asia Façade & Glass Conference 2024 was where the industry's leading "minds" gathered to shape the future of sustainable architecture and facade technology. With the participation of experts, the conference served as a lavish "knowledge feast," helping attendees get their "fill" of the latest trends. Particularly as Vietnam's construction industry is soaring like a kite in the wind, this conference was essentially a manual for learning international experiences.
Who Were the "Virtuosos" in this "Construction Symphony"?
The event assembled a lineup of speakers whose names alone commanded respect. "Appetizing" the knowledge feast was Dr. Johannes Widodo, Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore, with his "nail-hitting" speech on "Glass as a Dynamic Medium and Its Diverse Applications" – one listen and you'd understand glass is more than just something to see through! Following this "appetizer" was BM Windows: Mr. Satoshi Takemoto, Technical Director, and Mr. Nguyen Tran Tri, R&D Center Director, with "Optimization in Facade Design: Enhancing Performance and Efficiency." Then came Mr. Amos Seah, General Manager of Technoform Edge Bond Solutions Singapore, "serving up" "High-Performance Sustainable Facade Design for Climate-Resilient Buildings" – truly nutritious "main courses"!
The afternoon stage continued to "heat up" with "masters": Mr. Fibra Reelianto, Chairman of PERAFI (Indonesian Facade Association); Mr. Putra Narjadin, Chairman of the Indonesian Flat and Safety Glass Association (AKLP); and Mr. Timothy Soebroto, Regional Director at Meinhardt Facade Technology. And there was more – the panel on "The Future of the Facade Industry" featured Mr. Jürgen Benitz-Wildenburg from ift Rosenheim (joining via Zoom from home!), Mr. Roger Karl Scharer from BM Windows, Ms. Doti Windajani, Chief Architect at IAI Jakarta, and Mr. Amos Seah. Finally, Mr. Bertrand Cazes, Secretary General of Glass for Europe, "wrapped up" with a European "dessert": "Sustainability - the Driver of Value-Added Glass in Buildings" – after hearing all this, one could only "roll home" from the intellectual overload!
Which "Hot Topics" Did Experts Scrutinize?
The presentations and discussions at the event resembled lively "consultations," focusing on the industry's challenging "ailments." From "prescribing" facade design optimization through "divine" technology, using "environmentally friendly" materials, to "AI-smart" facade solutions capable of "dodging" climate change. With dozens of presentations from design consultancies, glass manufacturers, and installers both domestic and international, the event was like a "living encyclopedia" of the latest trends in materials and thermal insulation methods for facades, glass technologies with integrated solar energy systems, and ways to "transform" them into reality in landmark projects in Vietnam and worldwide. A highlight was recognizing glass not just as a simple building material, but as a "multi-talented artist," both helping to save energy and "beautifying" structures. Experts also emphasized the importance of the circular economy, prioritizing material regeneration and reducing CO2 emissions.
What Were the Industry's "Secret Codes"?
Throughout the event, technical terms that sounded both "impressive" and "challenging" like "adaptive facade" – simply put, facades that "know their place" and self-adjust to "please" the weather – were thoroughly "dissected" by experts. Additionally, the concept of "circular economy" in construction, like "one person's old is another's new," reusing materials to avoid wasting resources, was also a "star" of the program. Another equally "hot" "keyword" was "Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)," like a "birth certificate" for building materials, revealing their environmental impact "ancestry." Hearing how "mind-bending" this industry is helps understand how AKT's interpretation team must acquire knowledge to avoid being "overwhelmed." AKT company, short for A Key Team, consists of skilled interpreters who deliver success for high-end clients.
"Telling" Numbers
The Glasstech Asia & Fenestration Asia 2024 event "attracted" visitors like a magnet, with over 4,000 attendees and more than 200 "booths" from brands large and small. A telling piece of information casually delivered by Dr. Johannes Widodo was that while glass production does consume energy, thanks to premium technology, CO2 emissions have been reduced by half over the past 50 years. Each year of glass recycling saves a "mountain" of raw materials. Mr. Roger Karl Scharer from BM Windows also added that aluminum, a "close friend" of facades, when recycled saves up to 95% of energy compared to new production – truly "killing two birds with one stone"!
Glass and Facades: Value for the Future
The future of facade design and innovation is like a painting with both bright and many "dark tones." Experts believing the industry needs to "look far and wide," thinking not just about beautiful buildings, but also about occupant comfort, structures that "stand the test of time," and are friendly to Mother Earth. To achieve this requires continuous innovation in technology, materials, and design processes. "Marrying" digital technology, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI) in facade design and operation is considered the "true love" of the future. The event showed that the construction industry is becoming increasingly specialized, from general regulations on greening to green design and materials.
