Semiconductor Interpreting: Intel Products Vietnam at 20

Khang Nguyen AKT - English Vietnamese Lead interpreter, 25 years in 5000 events
Semiconductor interpreting means rendering chip terminology and formal ceremonial language in the same breath. At GEM Center, Ho Chi Minh City, two AKT Translation booth interpreters covered the 20th anniversary of Intel Products Vietnam, reported by the press as the largest assembly and test facility in Intel's global network, before Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the HCMC People's Committee and the U.S. Consulate General.

The Future Is Already Here: A View from the Booth at GEM Center
Twenty-five years ago, "technology" at the events I interpreted meant a desktop computer and a few standalone programs. Recently I sat in the booth at GEM Center, Ho Chi Minh City, interpreting the 20th anniversary ceremony of Intel Products Vietnam. According to the press, it is the largest assembly and test facility in Intel's global network, with around 6,500 employees and more than 4 billion units shipped.
On stage: Vietnam's Minister of Science and Technology, the Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee, the U.S. Consul General in HCMC and the General Director of Intel Products Vietnam. Two AKT Translation interpreters shared the booth. I covered the Intel General Director and the City Chairman, and Duy Nhan interpreted the U.S. Consul General.

Sub-2-nanometre chips, AI PCs, USD 110 billion in exports over two decades… things I couldn't picture when I started out were now coming out of my own mouth, through the microphone and into every headset in the hall. The future isn't far away. It's already here, and I'm proud to give it a voice.
Then it struck me that the mic in front of me and the headsets on every guest are technology too. Technology today connects people instead of sitting on a desk, and interpreters stand right at that point of connection.

AKT Translation has worked with Intel for about ten years and also interpreted the MOU signing between the HCMC People's Committee and AMD. Semiconductors and high-tech manufacturing remain a niche few interpreters cover.
Where have you seen technology bring people closer at your events? If you're planning a semiconductor or high-tech event in Vietnam, let's talk.
What the 20th Anniversary Covered, and Where Interpreting Gets Hard
According to VnEconomy and other Vietnamese media, Intel Products Vietnam at Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) has helped develop nearly 10,000 engineers, brought more than 600 local suppliers into its supply chain and accounted for 57% of SHTP's exports in 2025. At the ceremony, Intel announced that its total committed investment in Vietnam had risen to USD 4.1 billion, and the company received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Science and Technology and the Traditional Flag of the HCMC People's Committee.
The challenge is two registers running in parallel. State titles and honours must land in correct English, while chip terminology and export figures sit in the middle of congratulatory remarks. Simultaneous interpreters have to switch register within seconds, without the audience hearing the seam.
If your event also combines government speakers with technical content, AKT Translation can review the script with your team from the first draft.
Semiconductor Terms That Trip Up Interpreters
- Assembly and test site → "nhà máy lắp ráp và kiểm định", not "nhà máy chế tạo chip" (chip fabrication plant). The industry separates wafer fabrication (the fab) from assembly and test, and Intel Products Vietnam does the latter.
- Cờ truyền thống → "Traditional Flag", not "Emulation Flag" (Cờ thi đua). They are two distinct honours in Vietnam's award system, and the HCMC decision presented at the ceremony was the Traditional Flag.
- Sub-2 nanometre process → "tiến trình dưới 2 nanomet", not "a 2-nanometre chip". The nanometre figure names a process generation, not the physical size of the chip.
For Event Organisers Handling High-Tech Corporate Ceremonies in Vietnam
Anniversary ceremonies, plant openings and product launches by multinational manufacturers in Vietnam are often delivered by an event organiser, professional conference organiser (PCO) or events agency on the client's behalf, with ministers, city leaders and consular officials on the programme. For organisers in Singapore and across the region, a local partner that already knows where state protocol meets semiconductor vocabulary saves rehearsal time. AKT Translation provides English–Vietnamese booth and consecutive teams in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and the provinces, joins briefings with your team, and quotes from your run of show.
AKT Translation and Intel Events
AKT Translation's earlier Intel assignments include the launch of Intel Core Ultra Series 2, the Intel Conference and the Intel IoT Solution Aggregator webinar. On the anniversary side, the team has interpreted EVNGENCO3's 10th anniversary and SAWACO's 150th anniversary celebration.
Semiconductor Interpreting FAQs
1. How is semiconductor interpreting different from general IT interpreting?
The semiconductor industry runs in distinct stages: design, wafer fabrication, assembly, packaging and test, each with its own vocabulary. Interpreters need to know which stage a plant handles to render it accurately, and keep pace with processor generations that change every year.
2. How do event organisers book interpreters for a corporate ceremony in Vietnam?
Most organisers send the run of show, speaker list and languages to a local interpreting partner several weeks ahead. The partner recommends booth or consecutive interpreting, confirms team size and equipment, and holds a short briefing once scripts are close to final.
3. How many interpreters does a ceremony with ministers and city leaders need?
An English–Vietnamese booth normally has two interpreters taking turns. When several long speeches run back to back, the two can split by speaker so each prepares their part in depth.
4. How much does booth interpreting for a high-tech event in Vietnam cost?
Cost depends on duration, the number of language pairs, the technical depth of the content and equipment such as booths and headsets. Organisers can send the agenda and expected duration to AKT Translation for a tailored quote for their client's event.
