HCMC River Festival 2024 – interpreter’s view
The Second River Festival took place at the familiar venue, Nhà Rồng Khánh Hội. The visuals on screen were already impressive, but being there in person and seeing the stage extend for hundreds of meters, with vehicles on the ground and drones in the sky, performances on the shore and on the water, evoked a sense of awe.
Why is an interpreter needed at a cultural festival? If you witnessed the event in person or watched the live broadcast, you surely noticed the presence of Vietnamese leaders and representatives of foreign Consulates General in the carpeted area. It is where Khang Nguyễn the Interpreter was working, translating the entire program from Vietnamese to English.
In 2023, the River Festival was showcasing the captivating theme of "Tales of the River." The second festival in 2024, on the other hand, embraced the theme "The Legendary Voyage." - representing the nation's progress, as the river links its origins to the vast ocean. Things fade away as time goes by, but the tales of these extraordinary journeys will forever echo in the hearts of every Vietnamese, leaving behind indelible historical memories.
After the grand opening, the city residents and visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of one-of-a-kind sports, entertainment, and artistic events along the river throughout the festival week.Living in Ho Chi Minh City, I am thrilled to be a part of these significant events, making a small contribution to the overall progress.
