Consultation workshop on Mekong Delta agricultural transformation program

On December 2nd, 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam organized the Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on the Agricultural Transformation Program for the Mekong Delta. Earlier this year, Vietnam and the Netherlands had jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation between the two countries, aiming to build a strategic and long-term relationship. The purpose of the Workshop is to promote and gather ideas, as well as propose strategies and directions for local agricultural practices in order to achieve greater values and competitiveness as a result of sustainable development.

At the Workshop, representatives from the Netherlands called for cooperation between governmental agencies, researchers, and private businesses. In addition, advanced technology in water management and new agriculture practices were emphasized as a way to improve scalability and efficiency of the Program.

Plenty of opinions and solutions were raised from both sides, specifically focusing on geographical and regional aspects as well as funding sources for phase 1 of the Program.
