Interpreting at the business forum “Prospect of Indonesia – Vietnam Fishery Cooperation”
On 30 August, the Indonesian Embassy and the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) collaborated to organize the business forum themed “Prospect of Indonesia – Vietnam Fishery Cooperation”, encouraging business contacts among Indonesian and Vietnamese actors in the fishery supply chain. The forum was on the sideline of Vietnam Fisheries International Exhibition 2019 (Vietfish 2019),
According to Mr. Ibnu Hadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Hanoi, this was the first time an Indonesian delegation participated in Vietfish. Vietfish was a highly strategic event where industry actors were able to gain insights not only into the Vietnamese market but also into other countries.
He also noted that Indonesia’s fishery products exported to Vietnam were increasing significantly. Indonesian companies viewed Vietfish 2019 as a must-go event if they were to seek new business partners, including those from Vietnam.
Mr. Tran Dinh Luan, General Director of Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries (MARD) said this was the first forum specialized in fishery cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam. He hoped that companies from both countries could make good use of each side’s advantage to supply the market with high-quality fishery products. A number of fisheries forums was expected to take place in the near future, offering opportunities for both countries to promote trade and share lessons learned.
There were times when Vietnam had to increase imports from other countries, including Indonesia, to compensate for the shortfall in domestic production. Strengthening cooperation between the two countries would help to stabilize the supply chain and pave the way for sustainable development.
At the forum, VASEP called for Indonesia’s cooperation in the issue of IUU fishing, the development of sustainable trade in fish and seafood, the implementation of inspection and quarantine on the safety of food as well as the conservation of marine resources.
“Contact this man for our next conferences, will you?” said Mr. Ibnu Hadi to his staff, referring to AKT team. With just eight simple words, Mr. Ibu Hadi’s commendation embodies the standard that we – excellent En VI interpreters from AKT - have upheld so far.
