Workshop: "Sustainable Development for Cashew Nut Supply Chain in Vietnam"

The Workshop for “Sustainable Development for Cashew Nut Supply Chain” was orchestrated by Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS) with Binh Phuoc Farmers Union On September 26th, 2019.

The event was funded by NORAD (The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation), Ethical Trade Norway, and European food retailers and producers to carry out training and activities for medium and large-sized cashew processors.

This event was aimed at consciousness enhancement on national and international labor standards, resolving arising issues between managers and workers, as well as raising buyers’ awareness across all manufacturing processes.

Vietnam-based AKT translation company, with 20 years in the industry, performed to the best of our knowledge on various topics for our high-profile clients.

VINACAS was quoted as saying local cashew processors have not established effective and standardized workplace regulations and grievance handling. Dialogues between managers and employees were limited and unequal.

The above-mentioned matters keep the labour sector awake at night and exert an influence on productivity.

It was also found in VINACAS that in cases where employer-employee dialogues and grievances were handled with responsibility and integrity, better performance would be witnessed across the company.

The four-section workshop allowed for processors training on building a healthy workplace for better management of labor, and establishing more comprehensively standardized systems.

Apart from making the workplace a better environment, the organizers highlighted international buyers’ demands for standardized workplace regulations and grievance handling, which could facilitate the companies to lead the changes.
