Hybrid interpreting at the seminar on the role of peatlands in ASEAN and Vietnam
The seminar on the role of peatlands in ASEAN and Vietnam was conducted both offline and online via zoom with the participation of more than 200 invited guests, including lecturers and students from various universities.
Peatlands are a type of wetland which plays a integral part in fending off climate change, maintaining biodiversity and securing safe drinking water. These are also the largest natual terrestrial carbon store with the capacity of 68 billion tons of carbon, accounting for 14% of global share.
The value of peatlands is often underestimated, giving rise to the significant increase in clearing activities and peatlands drying. This, thus, has brought about adverse impacts on the peatlands ecosystem. As a result, a massive amount of carbon dioxide is emitted into the environment, which accelerates climate change and impairs human health and global economy.
The seminar aims at raising awareness of students and lecturers on these matters.
