Mrs. Ho Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of the Investment and Trade Promotion Centre of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC), opened the conference with an inaugural speech emphasizing the importance of preparing for new regulations in the context of globalization and environmental protection.

The remarks by EuroCham Vice-Chairman Jean-Jacques Bouflet highlighted the importance of the upcoming implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on January 1, 2026. CBAM will have significant implications for Vietnamese exporters, especially in carbon-intensive sectors such as steel, cement, fertilizers, and aluminum.

In addition to CBAM, the development of Vietnam's carbon credit market was emphasized as a critical element in achieving the country's net-zero targets under the COP26 agreement. While Vietnam has made progress with over 300 registered projects and the voluntary trading of more than 40 million carbon credits globally, establishing a comprehensive domestic carbon credit market remains a key priority. The training session provided a timely opportunity to explore the practical aspects of these mechanisms, drawing on international best practices.

One of the highlighted discussions was the presentation by Mr. Marlon Apanda, an Advisor from the World Resource Institute, who discussed the impact of the carbon market on Vietnam's economy, particularly for businesses in industrial parks.

Mrs. Nguyen Minh Hue, Project Director at Klinova, shared specific strategies for Vietnamese companies to prepare for CBAM and enhance their competitiveness. As a senior expert in greenhouse gas inventory and evaluator of national climate reports for UNFCCC, she provided crucial information for businesses.

Dr. Vu Kim Ngan, Deputy Head of Planning and Finance at Foreign Trade University, presented research on greenhouse gas emissions and CBAM, helping businesses understand the requirements and challenges they face. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Phat, Head of Legal, Compliance, and Government Affairs at Asia Clean Capital Vietnam, moderated the Q&A session.

In the afternoon session, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hai Van, Senior Legal Director and Compliance at Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, presented on the fundamentals of the carbon market. Mrs. Marieke Van Der PIJL, Secretary General of EuroCham, provided detailed guidance on CBAM implementation.

Mrs. Duong Thi Thuy Mai, a Carbon Market Analyst from Veyt, presented online about China's ETS, giving Vietnamese companies an overview of successful models in the region. Finally, Mr. Giando Zapia, Chairman of EuroCham's Sustainable Finance Committee, moderated the group discussion and Q&A session, creating opportunities for businesses to network and share experiences.
