The project “Drifting Sands: Mitigating the impacts of climate change in the Mekong Delta through public and private sector engagement in the sand industry”, referred to as the sustainable sand mining activities project, is carried out by WWF-Vietnam and WWF-Greater Mekong Programme. Funded by The International Climate Initiative (IKI), two consulting packages - sand budget and preservation of the river geomorphological stability of the Mekong delta – is being developed under this project, whose goal is to facilitate sustainability in the region.

The inception workshop of this project was jointly organized by WWF-Vietnam and VNDMA in Can Tho city. The goal was to not only introduce background information and current activities, but also to gauge the response and receive feedback from management agencies and leading experts at home and abroad.
The event was held both online and offline with the participation of delegates from VNDMA, SRHMC, CEFD, Hanoi National University of Science and Technology, and Deltares Joint Venture. Given the utmost importance of this project, Phien Dich Vien by AKT was honored to help bridge the language gap in this workshop.

According to WWF-Vietnam, increased sand mining activities are taking place in the Mekong Delta, where 82 licensed companies exploit 28 million tons of sand per year. However, due to difficulties in monitoring the reported and actual amount of sand dredged, illegal sand mining shows no sign of tailing off.
As a result, the project initiated the research on the delta-wide sand budget for the region, laying a solid scientific foundation for sustainable sand mining policies in the public and private sectors, as well as enhancing climate resilience and restoration.
The amount of knowledge shared in this workshop requires not only a comprehensive understanding of sustainable development strategies in the Mekong Delta, but also expertise in hydrology, hydraulic, geomorphological and bed topography. Thanks to extensive interpreting experience in a plethora of international seminars (remote or in-person) on similar topics, AKT team yielded excellent translation service living up to customer’s expectations.
Thank you for always choosing the services of Phien Dich Vien by AKT.
