Cabin Interpreting for the Vietnam – Singapore Forum
At AKT Translation, we sometimes provide interpreting services at our clients' locations rather than at conference centers. These opportunities offer us glimpses into many different aspects of life. It was particularly interesting for us to handle the interpreting for the Vietnam-Singapore startup cooperation forum, held in the cozy atmosphere of Vietcombank Tower. Titled "Co-creating the Future: Synergies Between Corporates, Startups, and Communities," the event, co-organized by BLOCK71, Vietcombank, and the Vietnam–Singapore Friendship Association (VSFA), created a vibrant, connected, and promising space for dialogue.
What is BLOCK71, and why is it crucial for the startup ecosystem?
BLOCK71, a global initiative managed by NUS Enterprise of the National University of Singapore (NUS), has been a driving force for change in the Southeast Asian startup scene. With a network of 9 hubs in 11 cities worldwide, from Silicon Valley to Suzhou, Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City, BLOCK71 is more than just a startup incubator. It is a complete ecosystem, providing startups with all necessary resources: from mentorship, networking, and co-working spaces to opportunities for global market access.

Vietnam–Singapore Innovation Bridge?
The event took place in a special context, as the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore had just been upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in March 2025. The team of interpreters at AKT Translation has earned the trust of its clients, leading to repeat business for numerous events and a comfortable, close collaboration that yields the best results.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Pang Te Cheng, the Consul-General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized Singapore's role in supporting and strengthening the "Vietnam–Singapore innovation bridge," affirming Singapore's commitment to co-creating an impactful and future-ready innovation ecosystem with Vietnam. His presence, representing a nation that has made a spectacular leap in the global innovation rankings (from 16th in 2020 to 4th in 2025), was a call to action to move forward together.
What is the VSFA?
Ambassador Nguyễn Đức Hùng, Vice President and General Secretary of the VSFA (Vietnam–Singapore Friendship Association), shared an optimistic vision alongside Dr. Vũ Viết Ngoạn, a member of Vietcombank's Board of Directors. Both emphasized that the upgraded relationship opens a golden opportunity for the innovation communities. The leaders called on stakeholders to pool resources, share knowledge, and overcome barriers to foster sustainable growth and common prosperity.
What hot topics were raised during the panel discussion?
The topic of creative entrepreneurship is familiar territory for the AKT interpreter team, as we have provided conference translation for this subject for numerous domestic and international organizations, contributing to the success of their events. The panel discussion, themed "Unlocking Innovation Through the Singapore–Vietnam Bilateral Relationship," was the event's centerpiece due to its complexity and depth. Moderated by Mr. Edward Lim, Country Director of BLOCK71 Vietnam, the panel featured experts from the VSFA, Vietcombank, and Vertex Ventures. The dialogue delved into the most core issues of the innovation ecosystem: from the differences and similarities in building businesses in both ecosystems to advice for startups looking to scale across Southeast Asia, and promising FinTech collaboration opportunities. One of the thorny questions raised was whether venture capitalists (VCs) in Southeast Asia are too risk-averse and if society is too unforgiving of failure.
What opportunities does the Uventures program offer Vietnamese startups?
A noteworthy highlight was the Uventures program, initiated by BLOCK71 Vietnam. It represents a strong commitment to finding and nurturing Vietnam's leading early-stage startups. The program not only seeks them out but also provides them with invaluable opportunities. The top 10 selected startups will each receive the GGV UniVentures Award worth US$25,000, along with additional funding from the Investment Committee. Crucially, they will get a 3-month incubation opportunity at BLOCK71 Singapore, with flight and accommodation expenses fully covered. This is an unparalleled chance for Vietnamese startups, especially founders from university backgrounds, to access an international environment and transform world-class deep tech research into high-growth technology companies.
According to an attendee, "The AKT interpreters today were really on the ball, translating very closely to the speakers." I replied with a smile, "You can't just talk the talk; you have to walk the walk." This was not just a compliment but an affirmation of the quality of the interpreting service provided by AKT Translation, a trusted language services partner for international event organizers.
