EN VI Experienced Interpreters at Forum on Mekong Delta, Resolution 120
On June 18, the Mekong Delta Master Planning, Regional Coordination and Investment Theme Forum was held in HCMC. AKT interpreters were chosen to hold four sessions at the 2019 Mekong Delta Forum.
According to Nguyen Chi Dung, Mekong Delta is the country's largest region of rice, seafood and fruit processing, an engine for overall economic growth.
The Mekong Delta is among the five mega-deltas most impacted by climate change and sea level rise. Mekong Delta provinces, in prolonged droughts, are predicted to undergo salinity intrusion. This hinders the goal of achieving sustainable growth.
Therefore, designing strategies and solutions to help provinces improve climate resilience and better avoid natural disasters is truly urgent.
According to Ousmane Dione, Vietnam's World Bank Country Director, effective regional cooperation, a detailed integrated master plan and effective use of financial capital are three pillars in translating Resolution 120 into action. As Development Partners, World Bank is committed to continuing to work with DFAT and other development partners to realize a climate-resilient, stable and sustainable Mekong Delta.
Greater coordination in the Mekong Delta will require an authority to oversee the implementation of the Regional Master Plan, make funding decisions, and decide which regional investments should be prioritized. A detailed Integrated Regional Master Plan will define the regional structure. And providing sufficient funding resources will help government tackle challenges. Such targets are only accomplished with coordination across the board.
