PhienDichvien by AKT attends the inauguration ceremony for the implementation of the “public-private partnership for sustainable greater Ho Chi Minh City flood protection scheme” (PPP initiative) between the HCMC Department of Construction and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in HCMC.
A consortium of Vietnamese developers – Trung Nam Group – and Dutch water-related companies such as Royal Haskoning DHV, Delta Context, and Van Oord is developing the Initiative. The Consortium collaborates closely with the HCMC Department of Construction as well as other local stakeholders.
Flooding has had many significant socioeconomic consequences in recent years as a result of a convergence of factors such as rapid urbanization, population growth, over-exploitation of groundwater, development of high-rise buildings, land subsidence, rising river tides, and more intense rainfall.
The initiative aims to reduce the economic impact of flooding by constructing a revenue-generating flood control system. As a result, the PPP Initiative was officially launched in 2018 with an initial investment of around $1.25 billion. This initiative provides a long-term solution for Districts 2 and 9 to prevent flooding and protect residents.
